You know how it feels when someone enters a well-stocked candy store and gets all mesmerized with what all they have to offer? Well, I feel like this whenever I go online to the Face Shop’s site and check out their sheet mask section. You see, the thing about sheet masks is that there is something for every kind of skin issue.
Back in the year 2010, it was Michelle Phan who introduced the whole Korean beauty regime into the rest of the world’s lives and it is needless to say that what she preached back then is still going around in the beauty community.
The Face Shop is one of the K beauty companies that sell their products now in India and if you look at their toners and moisturizers, you will notice that a lot of them are rice based, which is kind of weird and kind of intriguing. But in this post, I will be reviewing their Rice sheet mask and sharing with you what my thoughts are on this product.
These sheet masks sell for INR 100 and you can get it from Nykaa as well.
It comes in a glossy, plastic sachet, that your tear to take out the mask inside. The mask is soaked with serum, like every other sheet mask in the world, and you shouldn’t waste a lot of time admiring how freaky it looks, and just put it on your face or else you lose out on precious milliliters of serum.
What It Claims to Do
The brightening sheet mask with rice extract softens and brightens rough, darkened skin.
How It Performed and My Thoughts
So lately, I had been trying out a lot of sheet masks, mainly because they come with such an affordable price tag here in India that not buying them now is a waste of a good opportunity. This particular mask by The Face Shop caught my eye whilst I was browsing through their collection on Nykaa and I thought, “well, my birthday is coming up in a few days, so why not try it out the day before and see if it does anything good for my skin.”
In the past, I had tried out their green tea face mask, and my verdict on that was that it would be a good thing to try before any big event, and also since I’m a realist I know that I would have to use these masks over and over again in order to get some lasting results. But regardless, I gave this one a shot.
The instructions on the packaging say that you need to first wash your face and apply some toner on it, and then put the mask on, adjusting it according to the curves of your face; especially around the nose, and mouth area, and that is exactly what I did.
I usually tend to keep these things on my face for 30-40 minutes, but you can keep it for as long or as little as you want to or as long as the mask stays hydrated, but a minimum of 10 minutes is recommended. Also, just like every other sheet mask, there is a lot of serum residue left out in the packet after taking out the mask, so don’t just throw that out. Instead, you can scrap it up and apply it on your neck and décolletage area.
What I really enjoyed about this mask and every other sheet mask, is that immediately after putting it on your face, you get a soothing feeling from it, because it is cold. I usually just let it chill on my face, while I scroll through social media or watch some TV. Once I’m happy with the amount of time it has stayed on my face, I take the mask off and massage in the leftover serum on my face.
When I took it off, I noticed immediately that my face genuinely looked brighter than it did before. I’m not going to lie, due to the amount of pollution that gets on my face on an everyday basis due to commuting in public transport, by the time it is Friday, I look like I could very well play an extra on a coal mine movie. Even if you use face wash regularly, sometimes your skin needs something extra in order to get rid of the dullness. I was also quite happy with the dewy look on my skin due to the serum and loved how hydrated it was looking. Also, when I did my makeup the next day, it went on so effortlessly and the final look looked flawless.
Pros and Cons
- Affordable price
- Nice packaging
- Has a soothing effect on the skin
- Smells very good
- Hydrates your skin and gives it a dewy glow
- Brightens and reduces dull complexion
- Won’t work on reducing dark spots unless used regularly
My verdict on this sheet mask is sadly going to be like the one I gave for the green tea mask. It is really good for one-time use or for use before a big event, just to give your skin that extra bit of oomph. But for getting results like reducing dark spots and pigmentation, I would recommend that you go for something that is not a onetime use only product.
Beauty products for skincare never give out results in just one use, no matter what the TV advt says to the contrary on this. So, to conclude, I will rate this product a 3.5 out of 5, because of the dewy look it gave my skin and the way it brightened the dull complexion.
