Top 5 Liquid Lipstick Brands to Keep an Eye Out For

March 27, 2017 | by ashish963@gmail.com

When it comes to makeup, I feel like there are two kinds of people; ones who like eye makeup and the ones who like lip makeup. As a person who has always preferred lips over eyes, I have tried so many different types of products, from lipsticks, to balms, stains, glosses, and liners. And I have tried a bunch of different formulations of these products as well. So when liquid lipsticks were introduced to us, I was intrigued and had to try them out.

If you don’t already know, liquid lipsticks are a genre of makeup that glides on like a lipstick but has the application process of a gloss. They are liquid in consistency, but mostly have a dry, matte finish. They are extremely long lasting, transfer proof, and opaque. It has been a few years since this product became famous, and now every makeup brand out there, be it drugstore or high end, have their own version of a liquid lipstick.

Since there are so many options in the market for liquid lipsticks, one can get confused as to which one to purchase and which one to steer clear from. Also, liquid lipsticks have a bad reputation of being ultra drying on your lips. Now even though that is true for some brands, there are some liquid lipsticks out there that are just a dream to wear. They don’t exaggerate the lines on your lips, they don’t bunch up, and they are not super drying in nature. In today’s post, I will be sharing with you the top 5 liquid lipsticks that, in my opinion, you should try out.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick

Anastasia Beverly Hills or ABH as it is more commonly called is an American makeup brand that was started by Romanian born Anastasia Soare. Although ABH’s top product is their brow related makeup, their liquid lipsticks are a cult favourite. You can purchase this product in India from Amazon, and it retails at around INR 2000, or you can buy it from their website as well, they ship to India as well. They come in 38 different shades, so the chances of you finding a shade that you love and that suits you are very high. What I love about this particular brand is that their liquid lipsticks just don’t budge. No matter how long ago you put it on or how much talking or eating you have done since, this product stays in place, doesn’t bleed out, and most certainly doesn’t move. What’s more is that they are intensely pigmented so you get an opaque look, have a flat, sponge applicator that lets you apply the product evenly, and gives you a rich matte finish.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte

Huda Beauty is a brand that was started by blogger turned business woman Huda Kattan. Anyone who has an Instagram account knows who she is and what her products are. Her beauty line was made famous by her line of false lashes, but now there are other items in it as well. However, her line of liquid lipsticks are sensational and something worth trying out. There are 16 shades available and they come in a full and a mini size pack. They are sold online on her website and are priced at 27 USD a piece, but there are some Indian online shopping sites that sell it as well, but the authenticity of their product cannot be sure. The formula of this product is a little liquidy than its competitors, so the product takes longer to dry allowing you enough time to work with the color. After about 60 seconds, the product sets in place but still has a tack feel to it, which in my opinion is a good thing because that way your lips don’t start to look crusty. Having said that, its longevity is impeccable and you do not need to reapply it. But what really made this a favorite of mine were the color options, which lean towards 90’s pinks, browns, and vampy hues, and a few vibrant reds and pinks.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick

Stila is an American cosmetic company whose liquid lipsticks, just like ABH’s, is a cult favourite. In India though, not a lot of people know about this brand and therefore don’t know what they are missing out on. These liquid lipsticks retail at Sephora India at INR 1500. They come in 26 different shades, although you may not be able to find them all here, have a creamy-matte finish, are extremely pigmented, and can stay up to 6 hours. What made me include this product in this list, other than its shade selection, was its mousy texture which made application easy and also the fact that it did not do the dreaded deed of drying up your lips to a crust. Having said that, I will recommend that you wear some kind of lip balm or oil underneath this product so that your lips stay nourished all day.

Urban Decay Vice Liquid lipstick

Urban Decay is a subsidiary of L’Oreal and unlike its parent organisation, its products aren’t inexpensive or found at the drugstore. The one thing that always defines Urban Decay products are their quality and their long lasting formulation. Their most recent launch was their Vice liquid lipstick which come in 30 different shades, and have a matte finish and a metallic finish. What I like about these liquid lipsticks is that the company did not go for any nude colour, but instead they went for dark, vampy colours that are seriously badass. These are currently not sold in India, but you can find them at Nordstrom for INR 1077. These are long wearing, highly pigmented to the point that one swipe is enough to give you that opaque look, once it dries down it becomes budge proof, and are very comfortable to wear on the lips.

Nyx Liquid Suede

The final product on our list is the NYX liquid suede lipsticks, which belong to NYX Cosmetics, another American beauty company that has reasonably priced, quality products. These are purely drugstore and cost around INR 850 and can be easily purchased from Nykaa online or from Sephora India. These come in 24 different shades, and the colors include a few different shades of brown, some wearable nudes, bright reds, and some bright quirky colors as well. What made me fall in love with this particular brand is that for a drugstore product, it is pigmented, comfortable on the lips, and has a nice semi-matte finish. It doesn’t dry down to a full matte so your lips don’t get all dry and dead by the end of the day. It is not entirely transfer proof, but given the price tag, I’m OK with it.

So there you have it. These are my top 5 liquid lipsticks that are in my opinion, worth trying out.
