Air hostesses have to look their best as part of their work policy on a daily basis 24/7. How can they manage to look so glamorous all throughout long-haul flights without any makeup issues and skin problems? For a fact that I know, many air hostesses spend less than 15 minutes on their make-up but ensure that they follow a regular skincare routine that is the key to their flawless skin and helps them survive the consequences of pressure, temperature and altitude on the skin.
Air hostesses have to look their very best during all times. Their skin needs to be perfect, makeup on point, and their hair done in such a way that it doesn’t come in their way of work. A lot of you may wonder how they manage to look their best at all times. Well, here are a few things that air hostesses do in order to stay beautiful at all times. It is mostly skin care related and less makeup related, so if you are interested to know, please keep reading.
Take Care of Your Skin
Air hostesses believe in taking care of their skin much in advance and on a regular basis in terms of hydration, exfoliation, moisturisation, cleanup etc. However tired they may be, they make it a point to remove makeup once they are about to rest for the day with non-alcoholic cleansers so that they don’t dehydrate the tired skin. Use more plant based products which help retain moisture and don’t strip your skin of the essential oils. Use a hydration mask often to keep the skin looking dewy as ever for longer periods of time. Stay wary of fried foods, chesses and processed snacks that have a high sodium content to avoid bloating.
Hydrate from Within and Outside
This is a rule to swear by. Air hostesses revealed that they need to drink a lot of coconut water, cucumber juice and fresh vegetable and fruit juices from few days before an expected long flight to retain the water content of their skin. Once this is achieved, the makeup essentials do the trick. Even when on board a flight, they steer clear of caffeine and alcohol that cause dehydration and opt for fruit juices instead.
Drinking lots of water and fresh fruit juices is crucial to ensure that your skin remains hydrated from the inside. Air hostess tend to not drink caffeine based drinks because they dehydrate the body and since the air inside an airplane is already recycled air, which is drying on the skin, I think this is a good choice. Furthermore, using hydration makes and nourishing moisturizers is a good way of keeping the skin hydrated and dewy from the outside.
Maintain A Healthy Diet
I know this sounds sexists, but air hostess need to maintain a certain body shape as well, and the only way to do this is by eating healthy and steering clear from processed foods that contain a high sodium content because that can cause bloating. Instead, they opt for freshly cooked foods that are rich in protein, or fresh vegetables and fruits. I know this diet sounds sad, but if you want to stay in shape and feel healthy and energetic, then I think you should try it as well.
Avoid Too Many Hair Products
Like I mentioned before, the air inside an airplane is very drying, therefore if you have too much product on your hair, it will inevitable dry out and look frizzy. A lot of air hostesses tend to wear a wig instead of bothering with their hair at all, but some tend to use argan oil to keep it shiny and non-frizzy.
Hair
Stay away from using a lot of products on the hair as they tend to dry out the hair over a period of time and make them more brittle and susceptible to damage and breakage. They surprisingly have advocated the use of hair oil, or a pea sized amount of moisturizer or lip gloss rather than hairspray to set the hair in place and control frizz while in flight. Apply hair oil or serum to hair ends before a flight to counteract the effects of low humidity and lock in moisture. Use a wooden brush to control static.
Wear the Right Makeup
When it comes to makeup, air hostess are probably one of the last people to wear it light. However, it all comes down to using the right formula so that your makeup doesn’t look cakey and also doesn’t dry out your skin. Using a dewy foundation over a mattefying one will be the better option here, same goes for lipsticks as well, instead of wearing something incredibly matte, wear something that is semi matte. Use mascara that is not waterproof, because they dry out your lashes too much, and lastly spray some hydrating setting spray over your makeup to make it look dewy and at the same time last all day long.
Air hostesses use a variety of plant and mineral based makeup while preparing for a flight and even on board when they refresh their look. This includes a variety of BB (Blemish Base) and CC (Color Correction) creams all of which are light on the skin. They apply body lotion or body oil on their skin before take-off to keep the skin moist. Avoid waterproof mascara as it tends to dry the lashes when used for longer stretches. Use anti-fatigue eye serums to avoid that puffy, tired look of the eyes which can be diffused using concealers with light reflectors followed by tinted moisturizer instead of powder and a little blush and lip gloss to complete the look.
Use Non-Alcoholic Make Up Removers
The one thing they do and I think anyone who wears makeup should, is remove it at the end of the day, no matter how tired you are. Using natural ingredients like coconut oil or olive oil to remove your makeup is a good option in comparison to using alcohol based makeup removers, which tend to dry out the skin. Using a good exfoliater afterwards is important to make sure that there is no makeup and dirt residue left on the skin.
So, these are a few things that air hostess do to look like divas all the time. If you think any of these tips were helpful or something that you could incorporate in your lifestyle as well, then surely go for it. Also, if you think we missed out something, then let us know in the comments below.
