How to Take Care of Your Bras? Women’s Guide to Lingerie Care
May 27, 2017 | by ashish963@gmail.com
When it comes to bras, we can all agree that they do a lot more than just hold up your breasts. They stop your nipples from showing through a t-shirt on a cold day, they make sure that your breasts do not start bopping uncomfortably when you are running, and so on. You need to take care of your bras and this lingerie care guide will help you to do that.
We spend on an average, around 700 rupees per bra, and yet when it is time to wash them, most of us are careless and borderline brutes. We throw them into the washing machine, wring the life out of them just to get the water out, use harsh soaps on them. The list goes on.
Well, I’m here to tell you that just like you take extra care to make sure your expensive dress from French Connection is washed gently, you need to start doing the same for your bras as well. In this post, I will be sharing with you some easy ways in which you can take care of your bras.
Use a Gentle Detergent
The very first rule about washing your bras is that you need to use something gentle and not heavy duty. Unless your bras are soiled with mud from the Amazonian rain forests, you do not need to use that harsh detergent with which you tend to wash your bed sheets with. Every day after you are done taking a bath, run your detergent bar on both sides of your bra and wash them under the tap. This will keep them clean but will also extend their wear.
Do Not Wring
A lot of us are guilty of doing this, me included, and that is wringing the bra after washing. I can understand the need to get rid of the excess water from your bra because you don’t want it to pool up on the ground because it can cause someone to slip and fall. But for the sake of your bra, after washing it, do not wring it. And this rule goes especially for padded and lace bras.
Do Not Tumble Dry
This is probably mentioned in the washing instructions of your bra as well. Tumble dry is the last stage of the washing cycle where the clothes are spun around in high speed to get rid of all the water in them and make them semi dry. While this is convenient if you want the clothes to dry quicker, it is not very nice for your bra. When washing your bras in the machine, the best thing to do is take them out after the first cycle.
Hook Them Up
The last tip you can follow is to hook up your bra from the back before you bung them into the machine. I had read about this tip from a magazine ages and ago and since then, if I machine wash my bra, I always hook them up before and take them out after the first cycle. And honestly, my bras have lasted a lot longer than they generally would.
These are some tips that you can follow as a guide to take care of your bras. If you are someone who has just started wearing bras, then I think these tips will definitely help you out. If you have any tips of your own, then you can share them in the comments below for all of us to know.
