Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick, Product Review, Price & User Reviews

September 2, 2017 | by ashish963@gmail.com

In today’s post, we will be reviewing the Colorbar Velvet Matte lipsticks.

Colorbar Cosmetics is an Indian cosmetics company that was started in 2004. Its main agenda is to create makeup based on the different moods of women and how they want to depict themselves based on their moods.

In the last decade since its inception, this brand has opened up shop in almost all the cities of the country, and their makeup products range from eye liners, lipsticks, lip glosses, foundation, primers, and much more.

Price

These lipsticks are sold for INR 325, although you can get it at a discounted rate online.

Packaging

These lipsticks come in a clear, hard plastic case with the revolving part made out of reflective metal. You can know the shade of the product from the top of the case or it is also written on the bottom.

What Shades Are Available

There are total of 24 shades in this line, and most of them are dark browns or berry shades, and there are only a few bright and neutral colours. Although, if you purchase this online, then beware because the colours shown in the pictures are not even remotely close to the actual shade of the lipstick.

What It Claims to Do

Get the velvety matte lips you always dreamt of with Colorbar’s wide range of Velvet Matte lipsticks. These keep the lips moist but with a matte effect and stays on for long hours. This smooth and creamy Colorbar matte lipstick is enriched with Vitamin E to protect and care for your lips.

How They Performed and My Opinions

Let’s start by talking about the texture and consistency of these lipsticks. These look quite matte in the bullet, but when you apply them they have a creamy and smooth texture. Although it doesn’t end up looking like a matte lip, it does come with the cons of a matte lipstick, i.e. it is quite drying. I thought that due to its creamy consistency it will have some hydrating qualities to it, but sadly there were none, and since I tend to get super dry lips, this lipstick kind of aggravated the situation for me. Within the first hour of wearing it, it sank into the lines on my lips and although I had applied copious amounts of lip balm underneath and on top, this lipstick still managed to dry things out.

I did however, like the number of vampy, dark shade options that Colorbar has provided in this range of lipsticks. They did not play it safe with a whole lot of nudes and pinks, for which I give them extra points. The shades “Oh my Magenta”, “Sultry pink”, and “Demure” are some of my favourites.

The pigmentation for the light, neutral shades did not blow my socks off. In fact, you will need a good three swipes with a heavy hand in order to get the true colour, but for the dark colours it was quite intense. It will last for about 3 hours before it starts to fade from the centre of your lips, and these do transfer quite a lot. A lot of people complained about getting a pink tint on their lips after the lipstick faded out, but i did not see anything of that sort in my case.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Reasonable price
  • Good packaging
  • Nice colour selection
  • Creamy texture
  • Good pigmentation for the dark shades

Cons:

  • Settles on the fine lines of your lips
  • Is quite drying for a lipstick that doesn’t have a matte formula
  • The neutral shades don’t have enough colour payoff
  • Transfers a lot

Rating

Based on how this lipstick performed, its pros and cons, I will give it a 3 out of 5.
