Festival of Lights
Diwali being the festival of lights, your look needs to dazzle people above the finery so that you stand out of the crowd. There is a thin line between being stylish and being loud and cheap. So add bling to your attire cautiously. If your attire is too shiny or has a lot of bling on, then make sure your jewellery is not over the top. You don’t want to look like a lit up Christmas tree, do you?
Skin Care
Let your skin glow from within, your body tone up and how? You will have to take care of your skin a few days in advance of the festivities. Massage, clean, exfoliate, have a facial, sleep well, and drink a lot of water to ensure that your skin is smooth and spotless. Don’t expect a world of difference if your diet is not maintained properly. Exercise to shed off a few kilos in advance so you get a lot of options to try on more modern dresses and styles.
Traditional Cloths
If you plan to wear traditional clothes as is generally the case when women come out in all their finery, try to step aside from the flock and drape your sarees differently. Try the half-in-half, the lehenga style, the retro look or even a saree gown or saree dhoti to draw attention to your uniqueness. Ankle length anarkalis are still a rage and experiment with net, lace, ornate and heavily embroidered ones.
Make Up
If your outfit is very heavy it would be too much to apply heavy makeup on the face. If your eyes are a better asset, then try the smoky eyed look with mascara, kajal and eyeliner, eye-shadow and false lashes for a sexy look. In such case keep the lips nude or lightly tinted. Try on some playful bindis or mangtikas in varied colours for a more Indian look.
Pull out the jhumkis, anklets, kadas and kamarbandhs for a retro feel. Match the color of your outfit with your bangles and bracelets. Wear some trendy neck pieces that work well with the style of your outfit.
Hair Style
Traditional wear will look up to the mark if you use tied up hairstyles to show off your back and accentuate the curves when necessary. If you plan to show off your long hair then make sure you keep it well-groomed or plan your hairstyle in advance. Stay away from fireworks with open hair though as it could pose a safety hazard.
Keep the footwear classy yet comfortable as you may need to attend a lot of people for greetings and meetings this Diwali. You don’t want to end up having sore feet at night.
