Our society has some set norms and the community has certain expectations. Basically, it is male-dominated. In reality when a single mom raises the child she also has relatives, grandparent and uncles to give a support system. So, the child will definitely get the share of strong male support and love. In spite of this it is expected that a father needs to be the bread winner and head-of-the-family. The society has evolved after thousands of years to a point where women are accepted in most of the fields where men used to dominate. It might take a few more decades for the society to accept single moms!

That being said, if there is no male role model to support your child then it might get very challenging to give your child an example.
