Cosmic Metals Lip Cream by NYX Professional Makeup, Review, Price & Rating

September 16, 2017 | by ashish963@gmail.com

In this post, I will be reviewing the NYX Cosmic metals lip cream, which were introduced in the Nyx website with 18 shades and here in India, it can be found in Nykaa with 8 shades.

The thing that I love about makeup is that no style is ever completely gone forever. Be it the uber glossy lips or the colorful eye shadows; everything comes back after a few years of holiday.

Back in 2016, it was all about the matte lip, with brands like Kylie Cosmetics and Huda Beauty making the most number of sales in the market. However, it is 2017 now, and people want change. And this change has come in the form of a metallic liquid lipstick. Now, I will say this that Nyx isn’t exactly first in the game, but since they are here now (finally) it is time we check them out and review what they have to offer.

Here I will be sharing with you my thoughts on this product and whether it is hot or not. So if you were wondering whether to purchase it, please keep reading.

Price

These lip creams are sold for INR 700 and you get 3.8 ml of product.

Packaging

It comes in a clear, lip gloss barrel, which displays the shade of the product clearly. It has a sponge applicator which is domed but not doe footed. However, that doesn’t make its application any less difficult.

How It Performed and My Thoughts

So now that we are completely mesmerized with the names of these lip creams, let us dive into how they performed. Let’s start by talking about their texture, which I found to be creamy and velvety.

Every review that I have seen and read on the internet about metallic and glitter lip creams the one thing that has been common among all of them is that they have had a patchy formula. However, I was pleasantly surprised with these NYX lip creams because they have just the right amount of glitter in them, and their metallic finish is not too overpowering but rather gives a gorgeous sheen to the final lip look.

Furthermore, because these lip creams aren’t overdoing it with the metal and glitter, they can be worn for any kind of night time look, and not just something that you would have to reserve for Halloween or fancy dress.

Coming to its wear time, this product lasted for a really long time on my lips, and I’m not exaggerating this.

I wore the shade “Elite” at around 6:30 in the evening, and when I came back home, which was probably around 1 am, my lips were still tinted with the product. So during a period of 6 plus hours, where there was continuous talking, drinking, and eating, this lip cream stayed strong.

So, to say that I’m impressed would be an understatement.

They do have a tacky finish so you may feel the product being a little sticky on your lips from time to time, but nothing too major and it is definitely not a deal breaker for me. However, when you take it off, no matter what you use to do so, there will be glitter residue left on your lips after. But that is something that happens with any product with glitter in it, so it is kind of inevitable.

Currently, only 8 shades are available in India, and those are the wearable ones.

There are however many interesting colors available in this range, like electric blue, a metallic navy blue, hot pink, metallic green, purples, and so on.

So, there are definitely colors in this range which aren’t exactly night time wear either, and are strictly meant for Halloween.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Nice packaging
  • Gorgeous shimmer
  • Not too overpowering with glitter
  • Wearable colors
  • Easy to apply
  • Smooth in texture and glides on your lips
  • Stays on for a really long time
  • Dark colors are not patchy

Cons:

  • Leaves glitter residue on your lips after taking it off
  • Has a tacky finish

Rating

Overall, keeping in mind all the pros and cons, I’d rate this product a 4 out of 5. The colors are gorgeous, they have a beautiful shimmery finish, they aren’t overdoing it with the glitter particles and they stay on for such a long time.

I will say this though, since glitter lips aren’t exactly the cup of tea for everyone, you should head on over to Sephora first and get some swatches and also try them out first to see if they look good on you.

The darker colors like Elite and Galactic Love would suit Indian skin tones, but I can’t speak for the lighter shades like Metropolitan Night and Crystallised Metal. You could use them as a lip topper, over your regular lip stick to make your lips look pouty, but wearing them on their own would entirely depend on your skin tone and preferences.
